A closer look at the awards we’ve won reveals that our efforts extend far beyond the products we make, because we know that we can only provide the best service by being an all-round excellent company. We work on sustainability, ethical practices, fair trade and health and safety, because we want to excel in every area.

CARP approved
CARP is Canada’s largest advocacy association for older Canadians, and has more than 300,000 members aged 50 plus. Through its ‘trusted partners’ program, CARP recommends brands and products to its members. Only brands that meet CARP’s high standards for customer service and products that have been proven to really benefit their members are chosen, so Stannah Canada is proud to be the only stairlift manufacturer in Canada to have received this recognition.
CAOT Product Recognition Program
The Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) is a national organization, comprised of more than 16,000 occupational therapists, working across Canada. The CAOT is focused on quality care and client-centered solutions that make daily living activities easier. We are proud to be the exclusive stairlift holder of the CAOT seal of recognition.
The program was enacted with the goal of creating a peer to peer system, where certified occupational therapists judge a product on its various merits and overall value, and recommend it to their customers if they find it meets their needs. When they judged our stairlifts, they found that our:
- standard power footrest
- out-front safety belt
- hand control
make sure that our products fit our clientele. That is why they are happy to recommend us to their clients, as a company that meets all their mobility needs.
Canadian Welding Bureau Certification
Stannah is proud to be certified by the Canadian Welding Bureau, a certification necessary to meet Canadian health and safety standards. That means we are certified to fabricate and weld stairlift rail components for the Canadian market. To earn the certification, we had to:
- Document the welding related experience of the welding supervisors and engineers.
- Employ enough Welding Supervisors to control our welding operations. Each Welding Supervisor had to have welding-related experience and had to complete written and verbal examinations.
- Submit our welding procedures for approval.
- Qualify our welders – which involves testing them on the processes and positions of welding they use in production.
- Be reviewed and recommended for certification and review and sign the CWB Group Service Agreement.
Once certified, from time to time, a Canadian Welding Bureau Group representative will visit us to complete an audit report and provide assistance.
It was a lot of work, but it was well worth earning the certification so that we could be sure our welding practices are the best they can possibly be. We’ll keep working to improve and streamline our procedures, to make sure they truly are the best on the market.
Lift and Escalator Industry Association (LEIA)
The LEIA is an association that represents companies that supply, install and maintain lifts. The Association makes sure each company has the:
- People
- Facilities
- Track record
- Technical expertise
- Management systems
to work professionally and competently.
By being a part of LEIA, we are held to European and international technical standards so you can be sure that our trade practices are truly customer-oriented.
ISO Certifications
The ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is an independent, non-governmental organization that develops international standards. International standards make things work, and make sure companies are providing the highest quality, safety and efficiency in their products.
Stannah is proud to have won awards for:
- the quality management of business
- for the organization’s Environmental Management System
and a British Standards certification for Health and Safety Management Systems
As well as making sure all areas of our business meet the standards drawn up by experts in each area, International Standards ease free and fair global trade. That is something we really want to be a part of.
British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA)
The BHTA is the UK’s oldest and largest healthcare association. When we became a part of this association we signed up to their Code, which is overseen by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI). The Code holds us to levels of customer care that go above and beyond our legal obligations.
The BHTA keeps on top of its members to make sure their high standards are kept, and that companies in their association are always going above and beyond for their customers’ needs.
CE Marking
Our products have CE Marking. This is how we tell you that they follow European health, safety and environmental protection legislation.
For stairlifts, this means that the safety features have to include:
- a device to limit the lift from going too fast
- electric safety devices (switches)
- shock absorbers
By complying with the legislation, we make sure our products are as safe as they can possibly be.
The Green Apple Award
The Green Apple awards are a campaign to recognize, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world. Stannah is proud to have won the award in 2014 for its new product packaging.
It’s important to us that we respect the responsibility we have as a business to be as environmentally friendly as possible. We are thinking about the future and doing our bit to make it a bright one.
The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise
The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are given for outstanding achievement by UK businesses in the categories of:
- Innovation
- International trade
- Sustainable development
- Promoting opportunity through social mobility
Stannah is proud to have won The Queen’s Award for enterprise 4 times in the last 30 years, for both Export achievement and International trade. This shows our commitment to expanding as an international company, providing people around the world with the opportunity to age in place in comfort and safety.
MBE for Services to British Manufacturing
In 2017, joint chairmen of Stannah, Brian and Alan Stannah, were awarded MBEs (Members of the Order of the British Empire) in recognition of their services to British Manufacturing. This award recognizes how these two brothers are the masterminds behind Stannah’s most famed product – the Stannah stairlift. The award is a huge honour, as it recognizes the service to the community and significant impact both the brothers and their product have had, not just locally but over 40 countries worldwide.
9 RoSPA Gold Medal Awards
The Stannah Lifts Group of Companies celebrated a 9th consecutive RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Occupational Health and Safety Gold Award in 2017. The RoSPA Awards recognize commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention at work, and this award recognizes Stannah’s commitment to maintaining an excellent health and safety record for 9 consecutive years. We hope to win again in 2018.
